Not that I in any way doubt your ability to make a fine sloe gin, but I also bought a bottle of Sipsmith Sloe Gin last Christmas and I just tried it again recently. It's easily the best sloe gin I've ever tasted. You have talked yourself into quite a challenge.

Don't pick them now, they're supposed to have had a frost. If you think the sloes will have been picked by someone else by then, pick them now and give them a quick blast in the freezer.
Damson gin is also nice (and easier)....

This was a really interesting program for me as I'm just starting up my own business in California. Despite the US being the 'land of opportunity' I'm finding it pretty tough with all the red tape and health laws. Its interesting that the UK seems a little more amenable to people tinkering around in their kitchens and producing interesting products. I hope not to be part of a 'bubble' as was mentioned in the programme!

Marmite, along with supermarket taramasalata, is one of the few foodstuffs that actually makes me gag. However, banning things isn't the solution I feel - should we boycott Danish goods? Incidently the USA bans clotted cream because they consider it unhealthy.

For me it has to be jam then cream for the ultimate scone. I also love giving hot cross buns the same treatment - well worth trying next time Easter comes around!
